Mission Hydrate
Become a Water Detective
Using the Aero-Gro 5-in-1 Water Meter, test three water sources — tap, filtered, and bottled. Record pH, EC, TDS, salinity, and temperature. Then decide: which water would you grow with, and why? Upload your results to the Academy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is water quality so important in hydroponics?
Water carries every nutrient your plants receive. Poor water leads to nutrient lockout, mineral imbalances, and pH instability. Clean, consistent water gives you control.
What is pH?
pH measures how acidic or alkaline your solution is. Outside the ideal range, plants struggle to absorb nutrients even when they’re present.
What does EC measure?
Electrical Conductivity measures how concentrated your nutrient solution is. The ideal value depends on the crop and growth stage.
What is TDS?
Total Dissolved Solids estimates the dissolved minerals in your water. TDS and EC are used together to monitor nutrient strength.
Do I need reverse osmosis water?
Not always. Many growers use tap water successfully — but RO gives a clean, predictable starting point, especially where tap quality varies.
Student Outcome
After this module you’ll know how to test water accurately, interpret pH/EC/TDS, decide when RO water helps, and build a stable nutrient solution — preventing the most common growing problems before they start.
