Purified water with less water sent to the drain

Every reverse-osmosis membrane separates purified water from a concentrated reject stream. American Pure Efficiency improves that process with a non-electric permeate pump, reducing the backpressure created by the storage tank and helping the membrane produce water more efficiently.

Under suitable water pressure, temperature and chemistry, the manufacturer says this configuration can approach a 1:1 waste-to-purified-water ratio — a major improvement over many conventional residential RO systems.

Frequently asked questions

Is this really a zero-waste RO system?

No. It substantially reduces the concentrate sent to the drain, but it does not eliminate it. Aero-Gro calls it low-waste or high-efficiency because those terms describe the system accurately.

Why not return RO concentrate to the home's plumbing?

Some “zero-waste” systems pump the concentrate into the hot-water line rather than sending it to a drain. That prevents drain discharge but does not make the concentrate disappear. Aero-Gro's current efficiency package favors a simpler approximately 1:1 design without deliberately introducing concentrated salts into another household water line.

Does the permeate pump use electricity?

No. It uses hydraulic energy from the RO concentrate stream.

Does remineralization make the water strongly alkaline?

The system adds modest amounts of calcium and magnesium to improve taste and bring the purified water toward a more balanced pH. Aero-Gro will not promise a fixed pH because source-water chemistry and usage conditions vary.

Will every home achieve exactly 1:1?

No. Approximately 1:1 is a realistic manufacturer-stated expectation for the equipped system, but temperature, pressure, water chemistry and maintenance affect actual recovery.
